Oro Valley Post 132 Supplemental Newsletter.

Post and Auxiliary membership meetings: Thursday, Nov 18, 6:30pm at Vistoso Memorial Chapel, 2285 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd, Oro Valley. We will have a Post Everlasting Memorial Service for the 27 Post members who have died since November 2020. The poignant service will end with a rifle salute and the playing of TAPS. Please attend to show your respect. Family members of the deceased will be in attendance. A social with complimentary refreshments follow each meeting of the Post and Auxiliary. Meetings are 3rd Thursday of the month, 6:30pm. Auxiliary members meet in a separate room, same time, same location.

U. S. Marine Corp Birthday with Iwo Jima Memorial.

November 10 – 246th Marine Corps Birthday: The US Marine Corps started as the Continental Marines on Nov 10, 1775. On that date, the Second Continental Congress decided that two Battalions of Marines were needed to serve as landing forces with the Continental Navy during the American Revolutionary War.  

November 11 – Veterans Day: World War I fighting ceased between the Allied nations and Germany on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of the war.

Veterans and active-duty service members get a free meal from a select menu on November 11. Available for in-restaurant only.

Denny’s – November 11, 2021
Veterans and active military personnel get a free Build Your Own Grand Slam on November 11, from 5 am to noon. Dine-in only.

Freddy’s — November 11, 2021

Veterans and current military personnel get a card for a free Freddy’s Original Double combo meal that can be used until November 30, 2021.

Golden Corral – November 11, 2021
Golden Corral is hosting their Military Appreciation Night on November 11 from 5 pm to close. This includes a free “thank you” meal when dining in.

IHOP – November 11, 2021
Veterans and active-duty military are being offered FREE red, white and, blue pancakes on November 11.

Olive Garden – November 11, 2021
Free entrée from a special menu for each Veteran and current member of the military. Simply show proof of military service. Dine-in only. All entrées include freshly baked garlic breadsticks and your choice of homemade soup or famous house salad

Texas Roadhouse – November 11, 2021

Texas Roadhouse will hand out dinner vouchers at the stores’ parking lots on November 11, from 11 am to 2 pm. Veterans and active-duty military can redeem their dinner vouchers when the restaurant opens for dinner, through May 30, 2022.

Wreaths Across America, Remember, Honor, Teach.

The American Legion Oro Valley Auxiliary Unit is a local community partner of Wreaths Across America, a 501 c 3 national organization. WAA’s mission is to remember and honor those who have served our nation in uniform and its goal is that every veteran’s interment site will be adorned with a Remembrance Wreath one dayLast year, more than 1.2 Million volunteers placed 2.6 Million wreaths across the nation with 15,000 wreaths placed at local Tucson cemeteries. The deadline for ordering Remembrance Wreaths is Nov. 30, 2021, to assure timely delivery. Sponsored Remembrance Wreaths are sent directly to and placed at participating cemeteries. Schedule of Events: 1. Sunday, December 5, 2021, the start of World’s Longest Veterans Parade from Harrington, Maine, home of the Worcester Wreath Company, where the handmade wreaths are produced, to Arlington National Cemetery and participating locations is known as the world’s longest veteran’s parade, stopping at schools, monuments, veteran’s homes, and communities all along the way to remind people how important it is to remember, honor and teach. 2. Saturday, December 18, 2021, simultaneous wreath-laying ceremonies at over 1100 cemetery locations all across the country (10 AM AZ local time). Public welcome to volunteer to help place the wreaths.
