Post and Auxiliary membership meetings: Thursday, September 15, 6:30 pm at Vistoso Memorial Chapel, 2285 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd, Oro Valley. A social with complimentary refreshments follows each meeting of the Post and Auxiliary. Meetings are third Thursday of the month, 6:30 pm. September 16 – POW/MIA Recognition Day.

September 17 – Constitution Day. Normally observed on September 17, the day in 1787 that the delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia.

September 18 – 75th Air Force Birthday. On September 18, 1947, Chief Justice Fred Vinson swore in Stuart Symington as the first secretary of the Air Force founding a new branch of the United States military services.

September 25 – Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day.

October 8, Post 132 “Adopt-A-Road” quarterly clean-up: Saturday, 9:00 am. Meet in the parking lot of St. Marks R.C. Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Rd. in Oro Valley. Please provide your name and phone number in advance to POC Tom Robleeroblee.thomas@yahoo.com or 509-910-9323. Equipped with pick-up tools and trash bags, help pick up trash along a stretch of Tangerine Rd. while enjoying the company of fellow volunteers. This is a low stress, fun activity. Post, Auxiliary, SAL and Riders members welcome, family members also welcome to join in.

October 16, Sunday, Rockin’ 4 Heroes: Help honor our First Responders, Active-Duty Military, Veterans, and Gold Star Families. Open to the public at no charge, 2 pm – 6 pm, James D. Kriegh Park, 23 W Calle Concordia, Oro Valley, AZ. This was a huge success last year so don’t miss it. Event proceeds benefit The Arizona Heroes Memorial which is to be built on land in Oro Valley. Post 132 is an active supporter of this event and volunteers are needed to help ensure another successful event. Contact Steve Didio at 520-332-9481 or stevedidio@comcast.net. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks, and beverages will be available. The Leonid & Friends band, consisting of eleven accomplished musicians, continues to astound its audiences. Legion 132 Members with Eagle Scouts and Flags For Eagles Awards.

August 9 and August 28, Eagle Scout Courts of Honor: Four scouts recently received their Eagle Scout award during their Courts of Honor. During the ceremony, Post members present each Eagle Scout with an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol in the scout’s honor. Post members Wayne Larroque and Larry McNamee on August 9th and Post members Gene Wickey and Danny Lemon on August 28th. American flags have been presented by Post 132 members to more than 160 deserving Eagle Scouts in the past 10 years. The American Legion has been an active supporter of Scouting since 1919.

August 26, Send-off ceremony for Arizona Army National Guard 2/149 Aviation Medevac, Detachment 1:  The unit is deploying to Kosovo for a 9-month tour to provide medical evacuation support (Blackhawk helicopters) for the continuing NATO mission in the region. The deploying unit is just one of many Guard and Reserve Units that Post 132 has “adopted” and supported for the past 12 years. Post 132 provided refreshments and volunteers to ensure a successful ceremony. Post members Rick Gonzales, and Jim Burt , and Auxiliary Unit members Rosie Gonzales, and Roslyn Walton pitched in. More than 120 family members and guests attended the ceremony and expressed their appreciation of our support.

Auguat 27. Our most successful annual golf tournament fundraiser: Thank you to the golfers, many of who have played in 8 or more of our 13 tournaments, the supportive businesses and individuals within the local commun,ity and especially the generous support of our members. The annual tournament is our primary fundraiser funding our award-winning programs. We fielded 119 golfers, 45 individuals and businesses sponsored Tee box signs, 19 We Care sponsors, 2 contest hole sponsors, and two host sponsors. Your Legion Post is making a difference and it has been recognized for doing just that by military and veterans’ support organizations. A well-earned thank you to the 18 Post and Auxiliary Unit members who filled the volunteer positions ensuring a successful tournament.
