Oro Valley Post 132 and Family activities and info relevant to veterans, February 06, 2021
Greetings and best wishes to all.

Feb 18 Post Meeting: Cancelled. Members of the Post’s Executive Committee have reluctantly decided to cancel the Feb 18 meeting due to a surge in COVID cases within our community. Hopefully we can get back together in March, with precautions in effect of course. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we do what is necessary to ensure the safety of our members. Important vaccine update. Three options available depending upon your VA care status, your age and your residence.

1. Tucson VA COVID vaccine program: For Veterans who are already enrolled in the VA care system, and who have not been contacted by a member of their VA Care Team and who are age 65 and older, contact the following number to schedule your vaccine shot, 520-629-4729. I called the number to verify the above information but do not call this number if you are not in the 65+ age group. For general information about the vaccine rollout by the VA, go to www.va.gov/health-care/covid-19-vaccine/ or call 1-800-698-2411.

2. For individuals living in northwest Pima County, including Marana, Avra Valley, Picture Rocks, Catalina, Oro Valley, and Summer Haven, including veterans and non-veterans age 70 and older, a date to receive the vaccine can be scheduled at this link https://mhchealthcare.org/ This vaccination program is sponsored by MHC Healthcare.

Steps to complete the online registration process:

Click on link, then scroll down to select either MHC (Marana main clinic) or the Oro Valley location. Only two Vaccination sites: Monday – Wednesday at MHC Main in Marana 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays at the James D. Kreigh Park in Oro Valley (Thornydale Rd to Linda Vista) 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Remember, by appointment only.

If you click on Oro Valley, the available dates which will be displayed are for the Oro Valley location even though the address shown for all dates is of the MHC main clinic in Marana.

Once location is selected, a list of available dates will appear on the screen. Scroll down to and click on “learn more”. Additional available dates will appear at top of screen. Note: The available dates are listed below the silhouette of a person.

Once you have entered all requested information, you will receive an email to which you must reply to complete the process. It is then that you will receive an official confirmation email. This is an easy process to complete, just take your time.

Be aware that these online registration systems are experiencing high call volumes.

3.Pima County-wide option:

Starting this Monday, Feb. 8, all individuals age 70 and older are able to register for appointments to receive COVID-19 vaccinations.

— To sign up, go the department’s vaccine registration page, www.pima.gov/covid19vaccineregistration.

The county has expanded the 1B priority group, to include people 70 and older, educators, and people employed in protective services.

You can make appointments at one of the following locations: Tucson Medical Center, 5301 E. Grant Road; Banner UA Cancer Center, 3838 N. Campbell Ave.; Banner UMC-South at the Kino Sports Complex, 2500 E. Ajo Way; and the Tucson Convention Center, 260 S. Church Ave.

Despite the confusing, and often contradictory information seemingly everywhere about vaccine eligibility and scheduling, we are doing our very best to keep our members informed.
