Wreaths Across America hopes that one day every veteran’s interment site will be adorned with a Remembrance Wreath. Last year 1.8 million wreaths were placed at 1,640 locations by more than 2 million volunteers. During this year’s National Remembrance Day, restrictions apply and most cemetery memorial services will be virtual with wreath placing only by family members of the interred and by a limited number of members of specified local Veterans’ organizations.
Post and Auxiliary Activities:Fulfilling the American Legion guiding principle of “Service, not Self”, we continue to make a difference in the lives of others: Post 132 and its Family member entities, the Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion, and the Riders have gained a well-deserved reputation as caring and giving organizations. In addition to our Legion Family providing care and assistance to those in need, many members volunteer their time and talent at hospitals, the VA, Fisher House, Vet Homes, supporting children and youth programs, the arts, etc.
Nov 12: Fundraiser for family of police officer killed in line of duty. Our Post supported the Tower Challenge fundraiser by making a financial donation sponsoring one of the climbers, Post member Jeremiah Fountain. Jeremiah is attending the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy and his class came up with the idea of the Tower Challenge fundraiser. “I personally climbed the tower 29 times and as a class of 33 recruits collectively we climbed the 5 story tower 1033 times! That’s 5165 floors. We raised nearly $5000 for the family of Officer Brown. On behalf of myself, my class and the officers of the academy, we are very grateful for the generous support of Post 132”. We are proud of you Jeremiah.
Nov 25: Thanksgiving dinner provided by Post 132. Post members Dan McGregor and Linda Miller delivered a complete Thanksgiving dinner to the family of a deployed Army Guard soldier. The spouse and the five children very much appreciated the “overwhelming kindness of the Post members”, which was especially meaningful given the difficult times they are facing.
Dec 2: Holiday gift bags for Guard members and families. Members of the Post and Auxiliary, after purchasing the items for the 250 gift bags, gathered at the Guard Unit’s location to assemble the bags. The bags contain tins of cookies, holiday candles, candy canes, hot chocolate, Rice Crispy treats, donuts, toys and more. Post members Dan McGregor and Linda Miller (who is also the Guard Unit’s Family Readiness Group representative) and Auxiliary Unit members Rosie Gonzales and Ros Walton completed the task. Great job!
Dec 2: Post 132’s annual Military Families In-Need Holiday Gift Card program. Post member Dan McGregor provided gift cards to the Guard Family Readiness Group to be given to the families of eight Guard soldiers struggling during these difficult times. The Guard Units’ commanders and representatives of the Family Readiness Group were very appreciative of the kind and generous support of the members of the Post.
Dec 2: SAL provides gift card to Soldier in need. On behalf of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron 132, Junior member Dakota Couture provided a gift card to CW2 Grant Davis of the Western Army Aviation Training Site (WAATS) for an in-need soldier and family. CW2 Davis expressed his sincerest gratitude to Dakota and the Squadron’s members for their “exceptional generosity”.
Dec 4: Gift bags for patients at Tucson VA: Members of the Post and Auxiliary Unit purchased several in-high-demand comfort items for 250 gift bags to be delivered to patients at the Tucson VA Medical Center.
