Post and Auxiliary membership meetings:

Thursday, May 18, 6:30pm at Vistoso Memorial Chapel, 2285 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd., Oro Valley. Special guests at the meeting will be Caleb Rasor and his parents. Caleb represented Post 132 and the Department of Arizona at the national oratorical competition held in Indianapolis, IN on April 23. Caleb wishes to thank Post 132 members for their kind support and encouragement. Please plan to attend the meeting to show your appreciation for this patriotic and talented young man. A social with complimentary refreshments follow each meeting of the Post and Auxiliary Unit. The Auxiliary Unit members meet in a separate room, same time, same location.

May 20, Armed Forces Day:

On August 31, 1949, Defense Secretary Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace the separate Army, Navy and Air Force Days. Armed Forces Day is a joint celebration of all six branches of the U.S. military: Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and the newly created Space Force. The day honors all those who served or are serving, including the National Guard and Reserve components.

May 27, 9 am, next Adopt-A-Road clean-up:

It’s that time again. Volunteers are needed. Meet in the East parking lot of St. Marks R.C. Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Rd. in Oro Valley. Please provide name and phone number in advance to POC Tom Roblee, email  roblee.thomas@yahoo.com or call 509-910-9323. Equipped with pick-up tools and trash bags, we will all help pick up trash along a stretch of Tangerine Road while enjoying the company of others. This is a low-stress, fun activity. Legion, Auxiliary, Riders, and SAL members are welcome to participate in this important community activity.

May 29, Memorial Day:

Celebrated on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember the men and women who died in service to the United States.

June 15, Member initiation ceremony:

During the June 15 Post general membership meeting, there will be a member initiation ceremony. If you have an interest in being initiated as a member of the American Legion, please contact Ray Baldwin at phone number 443-624-9747 or by e-mail at c130flier@gmail.com. We will be conducting initiation ceremonies periodically, on a first come, first served basis. The official American Legion initiation ceremony is usually reserved for new members of a local Post, but since Post 132 has not performed an initiation ceremony in years, any member of Post 132 who has not been initiated in the past, is welcome to sign up. Initiated members will receive an initiation certificate and an American Legion pin.

April 22, Missing in America Project (MIAP):

The purpose of the MIAP is to locate, identify, and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of American Veterans. The unclaimed remains of 19 veterans were interred with full military honors at the AZ State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Marana. The Post’s eleven-member Honor Guard performed flag pole duties, the rifle salute and the playing of TAPS. Members of our Riders Chapter provided bottled water for all in attendance. Thanks to all who attended, serving as a family to these veterans.

April 23, the annual Post 132 picnic:

More than 100 members and family attended the annual Post-sponsored picnic, which was held at the Catalina State Park, Oro Valley. Complimentary BBQ fare, side dishes, and beverages were provided. The picnic is the Post’s leadership’s way of thanking members of our Legion Family for their loyal membership and continued support of the Post’s programs. A special thank you to those who made it happen for all to enjoy.

Honoring and Remembering:

The Post’s Honor Guard recently performed at Memorial Services for the following veterans: James Horack, Air Force; Donald Burchin, Navy; and Raymond Kurtze, Navy. The participation of the Post’s Honor Guard is an important and memorable part of the service and is greatly appreciated by the deceased’s family and friends. The Post 132 Color Guard and Honor Guard are the most active of such teams in Southern Arizona. If you would like to get involved with this important community support team, the team is always looking for more members. The Post covers the cost of the uniform.
