March 25, National Medal of Honor Day:

March 25 was established by Congress in 1999 as National Medal of Honor Day to “foster public appreciation and recognition of Medal of Honor Recipients.” March 25 was chosen because it was on March 25, 1863, that the first Medals of Honor were presented to six members of Andrews’ Raiders during the Civil War. The Raiders were involved in the Great Locomotive Chase, about which a 1956 movie was produced.
