Past Activities and Information:

February 2, National Four Chaplains Day memorial Service:
Four Army Chaplains sacrificed their lives to save others during the WWII sinking of the troop transport, S.S. Dorchester. The chaplains and 668 others died when the S. S. Dorchester sank. When there were not enough life jackets for everyone, the four chaplains gave theirs to four young soldiers. As the ship went down, men in rafts saw the four chaplains, arms linked and braced against the slanting deck, singing hymns and praying. Members of the Oro Valley Post 132 and Auxiliary Unit 132 were present to honor the chaplains. Post 132 commander Tom Roblee and Auxiliary Unit 132 member Chris Kennedy each placed a remembrance wreath during the service.

February 5, The American Legion Oratorical Scholarship program:
The challenging contest is designed to instill a greater knowledge and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Four high school students from Basis of Oro Valley competed at the Post 132 level of competition. Tanish Doshi, Nihar Goulapally, Nathan Lew, and Anamaria Elez, who finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively advance to the District 2 competition. Area A and State competitions follow. Congratulations to all four talented and patriotic students.

February 6, Auxiliary Unit delivers supplies:
Auxiliary Unit member Ros Walton delivered supplies to the Tucson State Veterans Home to restock the Home’s lounge. The supplies included snacks and beverages. The lounge is a popular social venue for the residents.
